Who Represents Plymouth

Plymouth is big enough to be split between two state House districts, so the representative for your street depends on your precinct. One state senator covers the town, in a district that reaches across to Cape Cod. In Washington, all of Plymouth is represented by one member of Congress and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators.

State Senator

Senator Fernandes won the Plymouth and Barnstable seat in 2024 and took office in January 2025. He served in the Massachusetts House before moving to the Senate. His district stretches from Plymouth across to the Cape, but Plymouth is its largest community.

In Washington

All of Plymouth sits in the 9th Congressional District, represented by U.S. Representative William R. Keating, a Democrat who has held the South Shore and Cape Cod seat since 2011. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator. Both were first elected to the Senate in 2013.

What this seat decides

The state and federal seats

Your State Representative and your State Senator. State law: the driving age, the minimum wage, the bottle deposit, and Chapter 70, the formula that decides how much state money your schools get. They also carry a home rule petition to the State House when your town votes for something state law does not yet allow it to do.

Your member of Congress and your two US Senators. Federal law and federal money, and help with a federal agency like Social Security, the VA, or immigration when someone in your family needs it. They also nominate candidates to the US service academies.
