Who Represents Orange

The whole town of Orange sits in one state representative district, one state senate district, and one congressional district, so unlike some of its neighbors there is no line down the middle of town to check before you write. One state representative, one state senator, and one member of Congress speak for Orange, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Orange included. Five names, and between them they cover everything from a local road project to a federal farm bill.

State Senator

The Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester district is a large, rural senate seat stitched together from towns across three counties, so one senator carries the school funding, rural transit, and farm and forest questions of a whole stretch of western Massachusetts. All of Orange sits inside it, which means there is no district line to check before you write.

State Representative

All of Orange sits in a single House district, so the same representative speaks for every street in town. That makes your letter simple: there is only one Orange representative to write.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Susannah Whipps represents Orange as an Independent, one of the few members of the Legislature who belongs to no party.

In Washington

All of Orange sits in the 2nd Congressional District, which reaches across central and western Massachusetts. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats.
