Brian Ricca, Ed.D.
About 593 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Brian Ricca leads the Southern Berkshire Regional School District, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running four schools day to day, among them Mount Everett Regional School and Undermountain Elementary. He came on as interim superintendent for the 2025-26 school year and was hired to the permanent job under a three-year contract. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because the district is regional, that committee answers to five towns at once: Sheffield, New Marlborough, Alford, Egremont, and Monterey all send members and all vote on its budget.

The School Committee
The Southern Berkshire Regional School Committee has ten members serving staggered three-year terms, with seats apportioned across the five member towns; New Marlborough holds two of them, filled by Miguel Mir and Nanci Worthington. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets on the first and third Thursdays, its meetings are public, and a New Marlborough student who shows up can speak. One Egremont seat is currently vacant.
