The Monroe Select Board
About the Board
The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Monroe voter helps choose all three, and each serves a staggered three-year term that puts a seat on the ballot most springs. This board is the town’s chief executive: it sets policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, makes appointments to town offices, and carries out the town’s daily business itself. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.

Board Members
All three members are elected town-wide. After each annual town election the board reorganizes and chooses its own officers, and Alice Houghtaling chairs the board.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: at Monroe Town Hall, 3 School Street. Call Town Hall at 413-424-5272 for the date and agenda of the next meeting.
- Public comment: residents may address the board. Ask when you call how to be added to the agenda.
- Run for a seat: the board’s seats are elected, so a resident can put their own name on the ballot at the annual town election.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the registered voters in the hall, which can include you.
Public hearings and meetings are where residents shape town decisions.
