The Superintendent
Dr. Timothy Sippel, Ed.L.D.
Dr. Timothy Sippel became Superintendent of the Malden Public Schools in 2024 and had his contract extended in 2025. Before leading the district, he served as a classroom teacher, building principal, and central office administrator. He oversees a Pre-K through grade 12 district of about 6,072 students — one preschool, five K–8 schools, and Malden High School — that is among the most diverse in the Commonwealth.

The School Committee
The Malden School Committee has nine members: the mayor, who serves as chairperson, and eight members elected from each of the city’s wards to two-year terms. Mayor Gary Christenson chairs the committee, and Jennifer Spadafora of Ward 3 serves as Vice-Chair. The committee is responsible for the general oversight and management of the public schools.
