Academic Performance & Context

Lunenburg’s four-year graduation rate was 96.0%. MCAS results, graduation rates, and accountability data are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.

One number here is a civics fact rather than an education one. Per-pupil spending is not set in this building or by the Superintendent. It is voted at Town Meeting, in the same room, on the same night, by the same registered voters who vote everything else, and a Proposition 2 1/2 override has to win twice, once at Town Meeting and once at the ballot box.

Lunenburg has just been through exactly that. Town Meeting sent two override questions to the annual town election of Saturday, May 16, 2026, one for 2.4 million dollars and one for 3.6 million. At the ballot box the first was defeated 899 to 1,748 and the second 766 to 1,883, so the town’s operating budget stayed inside the Proposition 2 1/2 cap and the school budget with it. Whatever you think of that outcome, notice the mechanism: 2,666 residents held the second of the two votes, and the second vote is the one that settles it.
