School Committee & Superintendent
The Superintendent
John Provost, Ed.D.
About 2,836 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. John Provost leads the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running a system of six schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because the district is regional, that committee answers to two towns at once: two of its seven seats are Hampden’s and five are Wilbraham’s, apportioned by population.

The School Committee
The Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee has seven members serving staggered three-year terms, two filling Hampden’s seats and five filling Wilbraham’s. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets at the district office at 621 Main Street in Wilbraham, and the meetings are public, which means a Hampden student who shows up can speak.
