Goshen is too small to run its own schools, so it shares them, and one central office answers for the whole arrangement. Vito J. Perrone is the Superintendent who leads the shared Hampshire hilltowns office, overseeing both New Hingham Regional Elementary, which Goshen runs jointly with Chesterfield for kindergarten through grade 6, and the Hampshire Regional district, which Goshen shares with Chesterfield, Westhampton, Williamsburg and Southampton for grades 7 through 12. The Superintendent proposes each district’s budget, sets academic priorities, and runs the schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committees, which carry out an annual evaluation. Because these districts are regional, the committees answer to several towns at once, and Goshen elects its own members to each.

The School Committees
Goshen elects members to two regional school committees rather than one town committee. The New Hingham Regional Elementary committee, which Goshen shares with Chesterfield, governs the elementary school and meets on the first Wednesday of the month. The Hampshire Regional committee, which Goshen shares with Chesterfield, Westhampton, Williamsburg and Southampton, governs grades 7 through 12. Each committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent. The meetings are public, which means a Goshen student who shows up can speak.
