School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Dr. Margaret Ferrick

About 1,061 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. Margaret Ferrick leads the Georgetown Public School District, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running a system of three schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because Georgetown runs its own single-town district, that committee answers to Georgetown voters alone.

The School Committee

The Georgetown School Committee has five members, all elected town-wide by Georgetown voters, serving staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. The meetings are public, which means a Georgetown student who shows up can speak.
