The Superintendent
Paul Haughey
East Brookfield does not run its own schools. About 1,443 students, from East Brookfield and from Spencer next door, belong to the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District, and the person who answers for all of them is Superintendent Paul Haughey. The regional district runs four schools: East Brookfield Elementary School here in town, Wire Village School and Knox Trail Middle School in Spencer, and David Prouty High School, so an East Brookfield child can move from kindergarten through grade twelve inside one shared district. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and is hired by and reports to the elected regional School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation.

The School Committee
The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School Committee has seven members, elected by the voters of the two member towns, and East Brookfield fills its own share of the seats on the town ballot each spring. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent. Its chair is Jeffrey Sauvageau. Because this is a regional district, an East Brookfield resident who wants a say in the schools runs for a School Committee seat on the town ballot, the same ballot that elects the Selectmen.
