Chatham, Massachusetts
The Chatham Schools by the Numbers
A snapshot of the Monomoy Regional School District, which Chatham shares with Harwich, educating about 1,644 students across four schools. Because the district is regional, these figures describe both towns together. Detailed figures come from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

High needs is a state count, not a score. It includes every student who is from a low income household, learning English, or receiving special education services, and counts each one only once.

Academic Performance & Context
The district’s four-year graduation rate was 97.4%. MCAS results, graduation rates, and accountability data are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.
One thing here is a civics fact rather than an education one. The school budget is the one large piece of town spending the Town Manager does not build, and it is not set by the Superintendent alone. The Monomoy Regional School Committee approves it, and then it is assessed to Chatham and Harwich by their shares and voted at each town’s own Town Meeting. So a Chatham voter has a direct hand in the school budget twice over: once by electing the Chatham members of the committee, and once by standing up at Town Meeting to vote the assessment the town pays.
