Buckland is a hill town of about 19.7 square miles in western Franklin County, spread along the south side of the Deerfield River and sharing the village of Shelburne Falls with the Town of Shelburne. It is an older and rural town: more than one resident in five is 65 or over, and about one in five is under 18. Seven in ten of its homes are owner-occupied, households average 2.3 people, and about one resident in twenty-five was born outside the United States.
