The Superintendent

Superintendent Bella Wong

Bella Wong

One educator answers for nearly every public school in Brookline. Bella Wong has led the Public Schools of Brookline since 2025, when she arrived as interim superintendent and was then hired on a permanent four-year contract. Before Brookline she led the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District as superintendent and principal for a decade and served as interim superintendent in Natick, with earlier work in Wellesley and Dedham. She oversees a district of about 6,949 students across eleven schools, proposes its budget, sets its academic priorities, and answers to the elected School Committee that hired her. The superintendent reports to the School Committee, not to the Town Administrator.

The School Committee

The Brookline School Committee has nine members, elected at large by the whole town to three-year terms and chaired in 2026 by Dr. Bob Weintraub. It sets the policies that govern the schools, hires and evaluates the superintendent, and approves the school budget that decides everything from class sizes to which programs survive a tight year. Dr. Laura Baines-Walsh and Dr. Faiza Khan won seats in the May 5, 2026 town election. The committee’s meetings are open to you, which is the point.
