Brimfield School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Deborah J. Boyd

About 261 students start their day at Brimfield Elementary, and the person who answers for their schooling also answers to four other towns. Deborah J. Boyd is Superintendent of the Tantasqua Regional and School Union 61 Districts, the shared system that serves Brimfield, Brookfield, Holland, Sturbridge, and Wales. Brimfield Elementary is its own district with its own elected School Committee, and when students reach grade seven they cross into the Tantasqua Regional schools in Sturbridge. The Superintendent proposes the school budgets, sets academic priorities, and is hired by and reports to the elected committees, which carry out an annual evaluation.

The School Committee

The Brimfield Elementary School Committee has five members elected by the town’s voters, and it sets policy for the town’s own school, approves its budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent together with the other Union 61 committees. Brimfield also holds three seats on the Tantasqua Regional School Committee, which governs the junior high and high school; Sheila Noyes-Miller, Jennifer Custance, and Eric Jaeger hold them. Jennifer Custance chairs the elementary committee and was elected to her Tantasqua Regional seat at the May 21, 2026 town election with 367 votes; Eric Jaeger was elected to the elementary committee the same day.

Curious how a bill becomes law, or how students can take on a civics project?
