High needs is a state count, not a score. It includes every student who is from a low income household, learning English, or receiving special education services, and counts each one only once. The median across all 395 Massachusetts districts is 46.6 percent.

Academic Performance & Context
Brewster’s own district is elementary, so it has no graduation rate of its own; from grade 6 its students attend the Nauset Regional district, where 96.1 percent of students graduate within four years. MCAS results and accountability data for both districts are published and updated each year by DESE. Because these change annually, this guide links to the live state profile rather than reprinting numbers that quickly go stale.
One number here is a civics fact rather than an education one. Per-pupil spending is not set in a school building or by the Superintendent. It is voted at Town Meeting and, when it outruns the tax cap, at the ballot box. May 2026 showed the whole machine at work: the Annual Town Meeting voted the budget, and two weeks later the town’s voters approved a 180,000 dollar override for the elementary schools, 1,235 to 840, and a 550,000 dollar override for the Nauset Regional assessment, 1,184 to 891, because in Massachusetts a tax increase for the schools has to win in both rooms.
