About 1,473 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou is Superintendent of Bourne Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running four schools day to day. Bourne runs its own K to 12 district rather than sharing a regional one, so the seven people who hire and evaluate the Superintendent are all elected by Bourne voters alone. That is a shorter line between a resident and a school decision than most students in Massachusetts have.

The School Committee
Bourne’s School Committee has seven members, all elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Library and Media Center at Bourne High School, and the open session is public, which means a Bourne student who shows up can speak. Three of the seven seats were on the ballot in May 2026, and one of them was won on write-in votes alone, which is worth knowing if you ever think a local race is settled before it starts.
