Community Organizations

Whately is served by local organizations that keep its history, support its library, cover its news, and broadcast its meetings. These are some of the longest-running, and several of them take volunteers.

Whately Historical Society	An independent volunteer-run 501(c)(3), separate from the town, that keeps Whately’s records and artifacts and runs the museum in the historic Town Hall at 194 Chestnut Plain Road. It publishes The Whately Scoop, the town newsletter. It takes volunteers.
Friends of the Whately Library	A volunteer group that raises money for programs and materials at the S. White Dickinson Memorial Library.
Watermelon Wednesdays	A concert series running for more than twenty-five years, bringing touring musicians to the West Whately Chapel and the Whately Town Hall.
Frontier Community Access Television (FCAT)	The community access station that records and posts Whately Selectboard and town meetings; the town’s own Selectboard page points residents to the FCAT channel.
The Recorder	Franklin County’s daily newspaper, based in Greenfield, covering Whately town government, schools, and events.
Daily Hampshire Gazette	A Northampton daily covering the Pioneer Valley towns to the south of Whately.

Council on Aging	Programs, meals, and outreach for older residents through the South County Senior Center in South Deerfield, which Whately shares with its neighbors. (413) 665-2141.
S. White Dickinson Memorial Library	Free programs, computers, and a card that works at libraries across Massachusetts, at 202 Chestnut Plain Road. Director Cynthia Steiner. (413) 665-2170.
Recreation	Youth sports, summer programs, and the town’s parks and fields. Recreation Coordinator Chris Williams. (413) 665-4400.
