Dr. David Lussier
Nearly four thousand Wellesley students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Dr. David Lussier is the Superintendent of Wellesley Public Schools. He proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs a system of nine schools, from the elementary schools up through Wellesley High School, day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the five elected members of the School Committee: the committee sets the policy, and the superintendent carries it out. That split matters to a student, because it tells you which door to knock on. A question about how a rule is applied goes to the administration; a question about whether the rule should exist goes to the committee.

The School Committee
Wellesley’s School Committee has five members, all elected town-wide. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets most Tuesdays, and the meetings are public, which means a Wellesley student who shows up can speak.
