Jennifer Willard
Tolland is too small to run a school district by itself, so it runs one jointly with Southwick and Granville. Jennifer Willard is the Superintendent of the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District, which enrolls about 1,250 students across three schools with its district office in Southwick. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and runs the district day to day, and is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because the district is regional, that committee answers to three towns at once: five of its seven seats are elected by Southwick voters, one by Granville, and one by Tolland.

The School Committee
The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Committee has seven members serving staggered three-year terms, five elected by Southwick, one by Granville, and one by Tolland. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Tolland’s single seat is held by Judy Stanley, so a town of about 471 people has a direct hand in a district budget shared across three towns. That one seat is the whole reason a small town works to keep it filled, and it is on the Tolland ballot like any other town office. The meetings are public, which means a Tolland student who shows up can speak.
