Stoughton Select Board
About the Board
The Select Board is elected town-wide, so every Stoughton voter helps choose all five, and each serves a three-year term on a staggered schedule that puts seats on the ballot each spring. The board sets town policy, signs the warrants that decide what Town Meeting gets to vote on, appoints residents to many town boards, and hires and supervises the Town Manager who runs the town day to day. Under Article 3 of the Town Charter it also wears three more hats, serving as the town’s Licensing Authority, its Street Commissioners, and its Water and Sewer Commissioners. When a daily problem becomes town policy, this is the room where it happens.
- Sets policy and direction for the whole town.
- Hires the Town Manager and holds the manager accountable. In July 2026 the board used exactly that power, appointing the Assistant Town Manager as Acting Town Manager.
- Controls the warrant, deciding what business reaches Town Meeting for a vote.
Board Members
All five members are elected town-wide to three-year staggered terms, and the board chooses one of its own as Chair to run its meetings and another as Vice Chair. In the April 7, 2026 annual town election, incumbents Lori A. Jacques and Debra C. Roberts held the two seats on the ballot, so the board carried over unchanged.

Meetings & How to Participate
- When: 7:30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, in the Great Hall at Town Hall, 10 Pearl Street.
- Watch: meetings are usually televised live on Comcast channel 8 and Verizon channel 24.
- Agendas & minutes: posted in advance on the town website at stoughton.org.
- Public comment: residents can ask to be placed on the agenda through the Select Board office. Check the posted agenda for the procedure.
- Town Meeting: for the budget and bylaws, the deciding vote belongs to the 168 Town Meeting Representatives elected from your precinct.
Public hearings and meetings are where residents shape town decisions.
