Southborough School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Gregory Martineau

About 1,323 students start their day in Southborough’s public schools, and they share a superintendent with the neighboring town of Northborough. Gregory Martineau has led the Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough since 2019, a combined system that runs Southborough’s K-8 schools, Northborough’s K-8 schools, and the regional district that runs the high school the two towns share. He proposes the school budgets, sets academic priorities, and manages the schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected school committees, which carry out an annual evaluation, so because the schools are shared he answers to more than one committee at once.

The Southborough School Committee

Southborough votes for two separate school committees, and this is the local one. The Southborough School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms, and it governs the town’s own K-8 schools. It sets policy for those schools, approves their budget, and takes part in hiring and evaluating the Superintendent. It meets at 6:30 pm on the second Wednesday of the month in the P. Brent Trottier Middle School Library, 49 Parkerville Road, and the meetings are public, which means a Southborough student who shows up can speak. In May 2026 the voters returned Chelsea Malinowski and elected Kelly A. Conklin to the two open seats.

The Regional School Committee

The high school is shared. Algonquin Regional High School, at 79 Bartlett Street in Northborough, is run by the Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee, a body of ten members: five elected by Southborough and five by Northborough. Southborough’s own ballot fills its five seats, and in May 2026 the town elected Denise Jean Eddy and John Francis Wysocki to the two Southborough seats that were up. Across the full committee the current officers are Joan G. Frank as Chair, Christopher Lacasse as Vice Chair, and Kathleen M. Howland as Secretary. The regional committee meets at 6:30 pm on the third Wednesday of the month in the Algonquin Regional High School Library.
