Town Government
Shirley School Committee & Superintendent
The Superintendent
Adam Renda, Ed.D.
About 1,656 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Adam Renda, Ed.D., leads the Ayer Shirley Regional School District, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because the district is regional, that committee answers to two towns at once: three of its six seats are Shirley’s and three are Ayer’s.

The School Committee
The Ayer Shirley Regional School Committee has six members serving staggered three-year terms, three filling Shirley’s seats and three filling Ayer’s, and each town’s voters elect only its own. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Shirley student who shows up can speak.
