Who Represents Russell

The whole town sits in a single state representative district, a single state senate district, and a single congressional district, so there is no district line to check before you write. One representative, one senator, and one member of Congress speak for every Russell address, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Russell included. Five names, and between them they cover everything from a town road grant to a federal tax bill.

State Senator

The Hampden and Hampshire district covers Agawam, Chicopee, Holyoke, Westfield, West Springfield, Montgomery, Russell, Easthampton, and Southampton. Senator Velis sits on the Joint Committees on Veterans and Federal Affairs, on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery, on the Judiciary, and on Public Safety and Homeland Security, among others, and all of Russell sits inside his district.

State Representative

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. Representative Boldyga sits on the Joint Committee on Revenue, the Joint Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries, the Joint Committee on Aging and Independence, and the House Committee on Human Resources and Employee Engagement. Worth knowing when you write to him: five of the six towns in Russell’s own Gateway Regional School District sit in his district, so a regional school question is a district question for him.

In Washington

All of Russell sits in the 1st Congressional District, which covers most of western Massachusetts, from the Berkshires through Springfield and east into Worcester County. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats.

Russell is not split, so every address in town has the same delegation. Both lookups take about ten seconds and both work for any Massachusetts address:
