Plympton’s schooling runs on two tracks at once, and one person answers for both. Jill Proulx is Superintendent of the Silver Lake Regional School District and Superintendency Union 31, the shared office that Plympton runs together with Halifax and Kingston. For its own youngest students Plympton keeps a district of one school, Dennett Elementary, which enrolls about 255 children from PreK through grade 6. For grades 7 through 12 the town joins Halifax and Kingston in the Silver Lake Regional School District, which is why Plympton’s own district reports no high school. The Superintendent proposes the school budgets, sets academic priorities, and runs the schools day to day. She is hired by and reports to the elected school committees, which carry out her annual evaluation. Her office sits at the Silver Lake district building in Kingston.

The Plympton School Committee
Plympton elects its own five-member School Committee town-wide to govern Dennett Elementary, the town’s PreK through grade 6 school. The committee sets district policy, approves the elementary school budget, and takes part in hiring and evaluating the Superintendent. It meets at Dennett Elementary, and the meetings are public, which means a Plympton student who shows up can speak.

The Silver Lake Regional Committee
Grades 7 through 12 are governed by a separate body, the Silver Lake Regional School Committee, whose nine members are elected across Halifax, Kingston, and Plympton. Plympton fills two of those nine seats, currently held by Lukasz Kowalski, who serves as the committee’s Secretary, and Jason Fraser. The regional committee is chaired by Gordon Laws of Halifax. So a Plympton family’s schooling is shaped by two elected committees at once: the one that runs Dennett Elementary at home, and the regional one that runs Silver Lake Regional Middle and High School in Kingston.
