Who Represents Merrimac

All of Merrimac sits in one state representative district and one state senate district, so unlike some of its neighbors the town has no internal line to check: the same people speak for every street. One state representative and one state senator carry Merrimac on Beacon Hill, one member of Congress carries it in Washington, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the whole state, Merrimac included. Five names in all, and between them they cover everything from a local road project to a federal budget.

State Senator

A state senator votes the state budget, files and shapes legislation, and can press a state agency on a constituent’s behalf. All of Merrimac sits in the Second Essex and Middlesex district, so there is no district line to check before you write.

State Representative

All of Merrimac is in the 1st Essex House district, so one representative speaks for the whole town.

A state representative files bills, votes the state budget, and can chase a state agency on a constituent’s behalf, which is often the fastest use of the office. The office takes calls from Merrimac residents.

In Washington

All of Merrimac sits in the 6th Congressional District, which runs along the North Shore and the Merrimack Valley. Massachusetts is represented in the U.S. Senate by Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator, and Edward J. Markey, the junior senator, both Democrats.
