School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Brian Haas

About 1,217 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Brian Haas is the Superintendent of Maynard Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running a system of three schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Maynard runs its own single-town district, so the five people who hire and evaluate the Superintendent are all elected by Maynard voters, and every one of them answers to the town at the next election.

The School Committee

The Maynard School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Maynard student who shows up can speak.
