Michael Richard
About 648 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Michael Richard leads the Lee Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the district’s two schools day to day. He was hired as Lee’s first full-time superintendent in nearly seven years, having previously led the West Springfield Public Schools, and he has taken on the elementary principal’s job as well while the district searches for a permanent one. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation.

The School Committee
The Lee School Committee has seven members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Lee student who shows up can speak.
