In a town of about 723 the community organizations are not a garnish on civic life, they are load-bearing: keeping the fair going, keeping the library open, and looking after older neighbors. Every one of them takes volunteers.

Heath Historical Society Preserves the history of the Town of Heath and works with the schools to teach the town’s young people about it.
Heath Agricultural Society The volunteer society that puts on the Heath Fair, held two weekends before Labor Day, the town’s annual agricultural gathering.
Friends of the Heath Free Public Library The volunteer group that raises money and support for the town library’s programs and collections.

Council on Aging Activities, outreach, and support for older residents, including the town nurse’s clinics.
Heath Free Public Library Books, programs, computers, and a card that works at libraries across Massachusetts. Library Director Kate Barrows; more at heathlibrary.org. Its trustees are elected on the town ballot.
Parks & Recreation Committee The town committee for youth programs, the fields, and recreation land.
