Mary Jane Rickson
About 634 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Mary Jane Rickson leads Granby Public Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the district’s two schools day to day: East Meadow School, which serves preschool through grade six, and Granby Junior-Senior High School, which serves grades seven through twelve. Rickson came in as interim superintendent in 2024 after years as a district administrator elsewhere in the region, and in April 2025 the School Committee hired her as the permanent superintendent. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation. Because Granby runs its own single-town district, that committee answers to Granby voters alone.

The School Committee
The Granby School Committee has five members, elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Granby student who shows up can speak.
