The Superintendent
Margaret Frieswyk
Cuttyhunk Elementary can go a whole school year with no students on its rolls, and Gosnold still keeps a superintendent, because state law requires the town to be ready to teach any child who arrives. Margaret Frieswyk is Superintendent for Gosnold’s own single-school district, which the state lists under district code 01090000. When a family with school-age children does live on the island, the youngest attend the Cuttyhunk school, and older or off-island students are taught on the mainland. The Superintendent proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation.

The School Committee
The Gosnold School Committee has four members elected by the town’s voters, and it sets policy for Cuttyhunk Elementary, the town’s own school, approves its budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent. The members below are the ones the town publishes on its own School Committee page. The town does not post a chair, so none is named here.
