John Franzoni
About 68 students fill the Gabriel Abbott Memorial School, and one administrator answers for the district that runs it. John Franzoni is Superintendent of the North Berkshire School Union, the shared office through which Florida and its neighbors Clarksburg, Monroe, Rowe and Savoy employ a single superintendent while each town keeps its own school and its own elected committee. Franzoni proposes the school budget, sets academic priorities, and oversees the school day to day, reporting to Florida’s own three-member School Committee, which the town’s voters elect and which evaluates the superintendent each year.

The School Committee
Florida’s School Committee has three members, all elected town-wide to staggered three-year terms. The committee sets policy for the Gabriel Abbott Memorial School, approves its budget, and works with the shared superintendent who runs the school day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Florida student who shows up can speak.
