Dudley School Committee & Superintendent

The Superintendent

Steven Lamarche

Dudley does not run a school system. It shares one, and that single fact changes who you talk to about your school. About 3,425 students across Dudley and Charlton start their day in the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District, and Steven Lamarche is the Superintendent of Schools for all of them. He proposes the district budget, sets academic priorities, and runs seven schools day to day. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, and he reports to it in public: his report of August 26, 2026 was presented at a School Committee meeting and posted on the district’s own site.

Because the district is regional, every enrollment figure, every test score and every dollar on this page describes both towns together, not Dudley alone.

The School Committee

The Dudley-Charlton Regional School Committee has seven members. Six are elected by the citizens of the two towns to three-year terms. The seventh is elected by whichever town has the larger student enrollment and serves a one-year term, and Charlton presently holds that seat. Members are not paid. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. Its meetings are public, which means a Dudley student who shows up can speak.

Dudley’s own seat on the committee was on the June 15, 2026 ballot, and Maureen Chickering was re-elected to a three-year term with 839 votes.

Curious how a bill becomes law, or how students can take on a civics project?
