Dover splits its schooling in two, and one person answers for both halves. The town runs its own kindergarten through grade five at Chickering School, and joins with Sherborn for grades six through twelve in the Dover-Sherborn Regional School District. Elizabeth M. McCoy is the Superintendent of both, a role she stepped into on July 1, 2022 after serving as the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. She proposes the school budgets, sets academic priorities, and runs the schools day to day.
The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected school committees, which carry out an annual evaluation and can decide not to renew the contract. That is the lever residents hold: they do not hire the Superintendent directly, but they elect the committees that do. Because Dover’s schooling is shared, the office answers to more than one body at once, which is why the two committees below both matter.

The Dover School Committee
The Dover School Committee has five members serving staggered three-year terms, and it oversees Chickering School, the town’s kindergarten through grade five. The committee sets policy for the elementary schooling, approves its share of the budget, and works with the Superintendent. Its meetings are public, which means a Dover student who shows up can speak.

The Dover-Sherborn Regional School Committee
Grades six through twelve are governed by a separate six-member Dover-Sherborn Regional School Committee, three members elected by Dover and three by Sherborn. The three Dover members are Jeff Cassidy, Kevin P. Crotty, and Lindsay E. Nie, who won a seat at the May 18, 2026 town election. This committee runs the Dover-Sherborn Middle School and High School, and because it answers to two towns at once, a Dover resident and a Sherborn resident sit at the same table deciding the same budget.
