About 675 students start their day in this district, and one person answers for all of it. Lori A. Jodoin is the Superintendent of Schools, proposing the school budget, setting academic priorities, and running the district day to day. Avon is unusual for a town its size: rather than joining a regional district, it runs its own two schools, Ralph D. Butler Elementary School and Avon Middle-High School, all the way from PreK through grade 12. The Superintendent is hired by and reports to the elected School Committee, which carries out an annual evaluation, and because the district serves only Avon, that committee answers to Avon voters alone.

The School Committee
The Avon School Committee has five members serving staggered three-year terms, all elected town-wide by Avon voters. The committee sets district policy, approves the school budget, and hires and evaluates the Superintendent who runs the schools day to day. It meets about once a month, usually on a Wednesday evening, at the district office on Patrick Clark Drive, and the meetings are public, which means an Avon student who shows up can speak.
