Who Represents Ashland
Five people speak for Ashland above the town line, and there is no district boundary inside the town to check first. One state representative and one state senator carry the whole town in the Massachusetts Legislature, one member of Congress carries it in the U.S. House, and the Commonwealth’s two U.S. senators represent the entire state, Ashland included. All of Ashland sits inside the Middlesex and Norfolk district, which also takes in Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Natick and Medway, so there is no district line to check before you write. Ashland’s representative chairs the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government, which is the committee that handles how cities and towns are allowed to govern themselves. If Ashland ever wanted to change its charter through a home rule petition, that is the committee the petition would go to.
