Who Decides
A regional district’s budget is not settled in one room. The School Committee, sixteen members with two from each of the eight member towns, approves it, and then each town’s own Town Meeting votes its assessed share. That gives an Ashfield voter two separate chances to be heard on the school budget: through the two committee members Ashfield elects, and on the floor of Ashfield’s own Town Meeting.
