A Portrait of Aquinnah
Aquinnah is the westernmost town on Martha’s Vineyard, about five square miles of land wrapped around the Gay Head Cliffs at the island’s tip, and it is an older town than most in the Commonwealth: about three residents in ten are 65 or over. Nearly nine in ten of its homes are owner-occupied, and about one resident in twenty-four was born outside the United States. About a third of residents identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, a reflection of the town’s Wampanoag community.
